Municipal treatment plant sludge

Geotube® bags have been used for over 15 years in North America to dewater municipal sludge. Terratube is Eastern Canada’s only distributor of these bags.

In 5 years, over 160 municipalities and plants across Quebec have turned to Terratube
to draw and dewater sludge from their aerated or vertical walled ponds.

The Geotube® solution is a simple and passive process that can handle any volume,
big or small.

Technical advantages

We pump and dewater sludge from a wide variety of ponds:
• Primary (reception)
• Secondary (aeration)
• Tertiary (phosphate removal, settling)

Because the Geotube® solution is particularly well adapted to frequent sludge removal and smaller volumes, we also specialize in removing sludge from vertical walled ponds.

Financial advantages

The Geotube® solution requires minimal fixed costs.

The equipment requires little labor and no specialized equipment to move and set up.

The Geotube® solution makes municipal budgets more flexible because sludge removal and disposal costs can be spread out over several fiscal years.

In fact, sludge pumping and storing can be scheduled over one or more years, and dewatered sludge can be disposed of a year or two later.

Lower dredging and dewatering costs mean sludge can be removed more often, which will improve the plant’s performance.

Management of solids

Plants and municipalities have the option of either managing the dewatered solids themselves or having Terratube take care of disposal.

Terratube has a variety of disposal options available at competitive rates:

• Composting sites
• Landfill sites
• A network of agronomists specializing in the agricultural use of waste
